Welcome to the Electric Energy Calculator

Knowledge is power! This electric energy calculator will show you how you’re using electricity in your home now and help you learn how you can start saving.

Here's How it Works

The calculators will show you lists of electric-powered items in a typical home. By carefully selecting the items used in your home and answering the questions about how you use these items, the calculator estimates how much electricity each item or system uses.

Wondering how you can reduce your electric bill? Start with simple changes. For example, you can set your air conditioning temperature up a few degrees and only run the dishwasher when it is full. You can replace your appliances with energy-efficient models. Compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75% less energy than comparable incandescent bulbs. Try entering energy-efficient options from the calculator’s menus and compare the results.

The calculator is based on an average CL&P residential rate. You can replace the default rate with a different rate if you prefer. For example, customers participating in the CT Clean Energy Options program may want to enter a different rate.

This electric energy calculator is for educational purposes only. It is designed to help you become more aware of how you use electricity. The calculations are based on typical usage, seasonally adjusted for Connecticut. Every home is different and your energy usage may vary. CL&P does not guarantee these results or the energy savings predicted by the calculator.

The time required to fully complete a calculation could range from 10 to 25 minutes. In order to save your calculations for future use, please log in
