Volunteering
CL&P is the title sponsor for the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games, as well as the host of the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing venue. The two-day competition has been hosted by CL&P at its Simsbury office, 34 Hopmeadow Street, since 1991.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
Hundreds of CL&P employees take the time to give back to the communities in which they live and work. We have employees who volunteer as firefighters, scout leaders, tutors and coaches. Others are active on boards of education, alumni associations and chambers of commerce. Many are members of lodges, PTOs and theater groups.
Some volunteers have helped raise money for annual appeals and special projects. Employees have raised money for the Governor's Coalition for Youth with Disabilities Scholarship Program and for fixtures to light up soccer fields.
Employees also participate in the United Way Day of Caring to help nonprofit agencies and organizations landscape, paint, organize files, clean windows and prepare meals. Some of our employees have helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit Christian housing ministry working toward eliminating sub-standard housing.
Our annual Volunteer of the Year Awards Program honors employee volunteers from around the company. Winners are announced during National Volunteer Week in April. Winners receive a plaque and a $1,500 check, payable to a charitable organization where they volunteer. Nominations are judged based on the volunteer's involvement, impact to the organization and the value of their work to the community.
