Wind Over Wings
Meet Kish, an eagle adopted
by Northeast Utilities. We adopted him as part of our support for Wind Over Wings (WOW), an all-volunteer organization dedicated to rehabilitating and then releasing injured wildlife back into the environment and to inspiring everyone to want to protect wildlife. NU also donated funds to help relocate WOW's aviaries, where the birds are rehabilitated, from Westbrook to Clinton, Conn.
Wind Over Wings gets no federal or state money. Funded totally by donations and grants, the organization's volunteers not only care for the birds, but also speak to about 10,000 people every year during environmental education programs.
With approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Connecticut's Department of Environmental Protection, Wind Over Wings is taking care of some birds that cannot be released into the wild because of their injuries.
This includes Kish the bald eagle, as well as a golden eagle, a great-horned owl, a barred owl, red-tailed hawks, a turkey vulture, a broad-winged hawk, an American kestrel, a common raven, a fish crow, a laughing kookaburra and a saw-whet owl.
Wind Over Wings believes that it's important for children and adults to connect with wildlife – and so do we. We want Kish and his friends to have a safe place to live. And we want you to be able to benefit from the educational programs WOW offers.
