If I select a "CTCleanEnergyOptions" offering, how will this impact my monthly electric bill?

If you select a clean energy option, a premium will be billed in addition to your Transitional Standard Offer (TSO) supplier charges and other normal monthly fees already on your CL&P bill.

The amount of your clean energy premium is determined by the option you select and is based upon all the electricity that you use for that month.

What companies are currently participating?

You can choose from two DPUC-licensed clean energy companies, Community Energy and Sterling Planet. To learn more about these two clean energy companies, visit Community Energy or Sterling Planet.

How do I enroll?

Choose the clean energy offering and enrollment level you wish to support by visiting the Web sites for the clean energy providers: Community Energy or Sterling Planet.

Who can participate?

If you are currently receiving your power supply from CL&P as a TSO customer, you can participate.

If you are not certain whether you are a TSO customer, please look at your monthly electric bill's Supplier Services section. If you have registered on this Web site, login to view your bill for fast access to your account information.

If I sign up for one of these options, is the power coming to my house from renewable resources?

When you choose one of the clean energy companies, you are asking the supplier you select to arrange for you to financially support the renewable resources in the energy mix you selected. The clean energy premium you pay helps to support the generation of clean, renewable power.

How will I be billed if I select a clean energy company?

You will continue to receive one monthly bill from CL&P. The clean energy option that you select will appear on your monthly bill as a separate line item.

The clean energy company's price will be based upon the price that they provided to you.

Can I cancel my clean energy option at any time without penalty?

Yes. Simply notify your chosen renewable energy company directly.

Is CL&P affiliated with the clean energy companies?

The two clean energy companies are independent of CL&P — neither are affiliates of ours. We remain neutral on the participating "CTCleanEnergyOptions" companies and the options that they are offering. We make no profit from supporting this program or the development of renewable energy sources.

What happens to my electricity if I enroll?

CL&P will continue to deliver electricity to you as our TSO customer. Your electricity will continue to be supplied by the independent power suppliers that produce electricity for our TSO customers. We will continue to deliver safe, reliable electricity to your home, send your monthly electric bill and restore your electricity during a power outage.

As a clean energy customer, you will help the development of renewable energy sources.

Is there a governing body that oversees the clean energy suppliers?

Yes. The two clean energy companies are licensed by Connecticut's Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) and have been selected through a competitive bid process.

Are energy conservation programs available?

Through the Connecticut Conservation and Load Management Fund, CL&P offers national award-winning energy-efficiency programs that help customers reduce their energy usage, lower their energy costs, and contribute to helping our environment.
