Environmental Management System

CL&P’s Environmental Management System (EMS) is an integral part of the Company’s overall management structure, and addresses the immediate and long term environmental impacts. Our EMS helps us anticipate and meet growing environmental performance expectations and ensures ongoing compliance with federal and state requirements.

The foundation of our EMS is the Northeast Utilities Environmental Policy, which provides a commitment to maintaining compliance, promoting environmental leadership, ensuring accountability for our actions, and practicing environmental stewardship. Each year CL&P reviews the environmental impacts of all of its activities. Examples include vehicle air emissions, the recycling of office paper, and the use of natural resources. CL&P establishes objectives and targets to minimize these environmental impacts of company operations.

Our EMS is modeled after the internationally accepted ISO 14001:2004 standard that provides a framework for ensuring a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving environmental performance. CL&P is proud to have achieved ISO 14001 certification at all of our facilities. This certification requires an annual review by third-party auditors. ISO 14001 certification demonstrates our environmental commitment to our customers, shareholders, regulators and employees.
