Volunteerism
CL&P is the title sponsor for the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games, as well as the host of the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing venue. In 2008, 867 volunteers worked at the two-day competition that has been hosted by CL&P at its Simsbury office, 34 Hopmeadow Street, since 1991.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
Hundreds of CL&P employees take the time to give back to the communities where they live and work. We have employees who volunteer as firefighters, scout leaders, tutors and coaches. Others are active on boards of education, alumni associations and chambers of commerce. Many are members of lodges, PTOs and theater groups.
Some volunteers have helped raise money for annual appeals and special projects such as the March of Dimes, Walk for Autism, the American Heart Association and more. Employees have raised money for the Governor's Coalition for Youth with Disabilities Scholarship and have made generous donations to other organizations such as the Little Angels program, Operation Button Up and holiday food and toy drives.
Employees also participate in the United Way Day of Caring to help nonprofit agencies and organizations landscape, paint, organize files, clean windows and prepare meals. Some of our employees have helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit Christian housing ministry working toward eliminating sub-standard housing.
