CL&P Helps Lead the Charge on Electric Vehicles

In May, CL&P helped coordinate the state first Electric Vehicle forum at the State Capitol. In October, CL&P President Jeff Butler signed an agreement with Governor Rell and Nissan North America to promote electric vehicles. "The inclusion of Connecticut in the launch of the Nissan LEAF recognizes our commitment to clean energy and the culmination of our work to prepare the state for the next generation of electric vehicles," said Governor M. Jodi Rell.

Rebuilding Houses and Hope

By purchasing $20 million in tax credits, CL&P supports affordable housing statewide. In New London, Belden Street, once a dilapidated hotbed of inner-city crime, is being steadily transformed into a place where low- and moderate-income families have the opportunity to own attractive, affordable homes. In the Kensington section of Berlin, a paper goods factory dating back to the turn of the 20th century is being transformed into 72 modern condominium units known as The Lofts at Sherwood Falls. Claiming CL&P's largest tax credit purchase ever is Building and Land Technology's Harbor Point project in Stamford. CL&P made the commitment to purchase $10 million in historic structure rehabilitation tax credits to help support the revitalization of the South End's blighted industrial waterfront.

Bulkeley High School Wins Second Annual Live Green - Win Green Contest

Students at Bulkeley High School in Hartford will soon be seeing major environmental improvements at their school thanks to a $20,000 grant from CL&P. The school was the winner of the 2009-10 Live Green - Win Green contest, which encourages students to consider projects to make their schools more environmentally friendly. Conard High School in West Hartford, Stapels High School in Westport and Wilby High School in Waterbury were selected as runners-up.
